Christmas Oratorio tells the Nativity story through dance.
The production is based on Weidman's 1961 version, which debuted to wide, critical acclaim and has remained a much-loved classic work of modern dance. The first version of Christmas Oratorio was a Broadway production at the 44th St. Theatre, performed December 24, 1934, with Weidman and 18 Humphrey-Weidman Company members. Lillian Gish was the Madonna. Humphrey was credited with setting it, but Weidman was co-creator. Weidman then revisited and rechoreographed the work in 1961.
